The Elgin Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will present “Fridays on the Farm: American Masters” on July 2, 2021.
The performance, which will take place at The Venue at Goebberts in Pinegree Grove, Illinois, will feature soprano Joelle Harvey as she takes on Barber’s iconic “Knoxville: Summer of 1915”.
Harvey is an internationally renowned soprano who has performed at the Opernhaus Zürich, Cleveland Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, New York Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony, among others.
The program, to be conducted by Andrew Grams, will also include Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” Symphonic Dances.
“After more than a year of Covid-tailored programming, we are delighted to once again be able to present orchestral music on a large scale to our audiences. Music Director Andrew Grams has put together a program that celebrates what promises to be a very different Independence Day from last year, with three staples from the repertoire of American composers and featuring one of the greats American Sopranos: Joelle Harvey, ”Erik Malmquist, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s Executive Director, told OperaWire.
