Sinfonia MNC, Tuncurry, Mid North Coast, Great Lakes, Manning Valley Anglican College, Port Macquarie Baptist Church, Tuncurry Memorial Hall

The last 12 months of canceled concerts and live performances have been put aside as a community orchestra, Sinfonia MNC is stepping up rehearsals ahead of its first concert series for 2021. As live music makes a welcome return, Sinfonia wishes to return to communities and venues across the Mid North Coast, bringing the rich and moving tapestry of the sounds of a full orchestra in motion. Conductor and arranger, Iain Pole has put together a music program called Folk and Fantasy, featuring new works that the orchestra has never performed before, and some highly regarded audience favorites. These include a selection of themes from Bedrich Smetana’s comedy opera, The Bartered Bride; Opening of the Johannes Brahms Academic Festival; the Baletto from Suite No. 1 of Ancient Areas and Dances by Ottorino Respighi, and a spicy collection of Spanish dances in Andalusia Suite by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona inspired by the Andalusian region of Spain. Following Sinfonia’s long tradition of nurturing young local music students with its scholarship program, 2021 Quaver scholarship recipient Cornell Estibeiros will perform a violin solo, Arioso by Jeffrey Wilson and arranged for orchestra by Iain Pole. Cornell lives in Taree and also studies piano and voice. He joined Sinfonia’s violin section this year and is a violin student with Sinfonia conductor Carmel Brown. Concerts are scheduled for June, starting Sunday June 6 at the Baptist Church in Port Macquarie, followed by concerts at Manning Valley Anglican College in Cundletown on Saturday June 19 and at Tuncurry Memorial Hall the next day, Sunday June 20. All concerts start at 2 p.m. and tickets will be available on Trybooking and at the door. Children under 16 are admitted free. Sinfonia draws its players from across the region, including the Great Lakes, Manning Valley, Hastings, Camden Haven and Gloucester regions. With a membership of over 30 members, from young to senior, the orchestra welcomes amateur and student musicians, as well as music teachers seeking the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a full orchestra locally. Honorary Conductor Iain Pole lives and works in Camden Haven as a music teacher and also conductor of the Camden Haven Band and Choir. He has been a member of Sinfonia since its inception over 20 years ago and has been an Honorary Conductor since 2018. Sinfonia is committed to broadcasting live orchestral music throughout the region, and although the concert series at coming to be the first in a long time due to restrictions on gatherings, the orchestra looks forward to delivering an afternoon of music with many folk elements and a touch of whimsy to warm the soul.
