World record holding a British triple jumper Jonathan edwards wished a PerthWell-based musician who is preparing to run 10km to mark his 65th birthday and to raise money for a local charity.

Jonathan edwards, who held the triple jump world record 18.29 meters tall for over 25 years, sent a supportive video message to his old friend Ian white, which runs 10km on June 7 to raise funds for the Perth’s Inspiration Orchestra.

Ian, who turned 65 on May 16, thought he would celebrate by running 10km to the North Inch in Perth and asking people to sponsor him for the benefit of the Inspiration Orchestra he founded, which empowers people with disabilities to play music.

Jonathan said in his post: “Good luck with the Ian race and happy birthday too!

“You’re probably a little late for Olympic selection, but I’m sure you’re going to run fast, and if you can support Ian then do it because the orchestra is such a great cause. Good luck man! “

What is the Inspiration Orchestra?

the Inspirational orchestra, which gives free music lessons and supplies instruments to anyone in the Tayside area with a registered disability, revolves around weekly individual music lessons, weekly orchestral practices and monthly public concerts.

The charity is raising funds to pay for tuition and looks forward to hiring additional tutors in the years to come.

The orchestra now has more than 20 members from across the region.

Anyone with a disability can register and all classes are free.

The charity is governed by a board of directors who are all local in Perth and cover a wide range of professional backgrounds.

Ian says of his run: “The goal was to raise £ 3000 for orchestral funds, but the audience has been so generous, and the total is now almost £ 4000! “

He adds: “Besides the music side, we also promoted disabled artists.

“We opened a store two years ago in Perth South Street with a range of artist cards from around the world.

“The Covid lockdowns have of course been devastating, and while the store as a whole still made a profit, we are closing in July and sadly capitulating to the online trend.”
