Westar Resources Ltd Identifies Six High Priority Base Metal Conductors at Gidgee North
“As we continue to be a gold-focused explorer, SkyTEM data has revealed a compelling opportunity for base metals to assess conductors in the region as well as develop our gold targets,†MD said. .
() identified six distinct high priority conductors for base metals during geophysical studies at the Gidgee North project in Western Australia.
The studies were conducted by Southern Geoscience Consultants (SGC) and PGN Geoscience (PGN) using SkyTEM data and along with base metals, they also indicated potential for gold.
A review of open-file SkyTEM data that covers only a portion of the vast 215 square kilometer landholding in Gidgee North identified six distinct conductors, four of which were modeled per plate.
Westar plans to begin ground exploration work to refine drill targets in August, with a first drilling program scheduled to take place in the second half of 2021.
“An interesting opportunity for base metals”
Chief Executive Karl Jupp said the company believes in an evidence-based, data-driven approach to exploration and part of that involved getting the most out of all available datasets.
“As we continue to be a gold-focused explorer, SkyTEM data has revealed a compelling base metals opportunity to assess conductors in the region as well as to develop our gold targets,†he said. declared.
“We look forward to digesting the lithostructural and geochemical examination of the PGN before some good old-fashioned ‘boots on the ground’ geology to rapidly advance all targets in this under-explored region of the Gum Creek greenstone belt. . “
The depth below the surface to the top of the plate is modeled to be within the first 30 meters with the largest plate being 3.6 kilometers long and 80 meters thick.
Westar considers the SkyTEM anomalies to be potentially analogous to ‘s ()’ s Altair prospect from which 44 meters at 1.2% copper over 56 meters and 20 meters at 1.1% copper over 64 meters were returned.
The copper prospect is interpreted as massive sulphide-style volcanic-hosted (VHMS) mineralization, with drilling completed in the 1990s by previous explorers intersecting large areas of copper mineralization.
Next on the agenda
Westar also engaged PGN Geoscience to perform a litho-structural interpretation and targeting study of the Gidgee North Project using both Westar datasets and open file data.
The results of this study were recently received and will be reported back in due course.
The company intends to progress towards ground truth of several of the SkyTEM targets, including GN_E, through field mapping, rock chip sampling and infill soil sampling.
Quotes will be requested to complete the airborne EM on the rest of the project as well as the ground EM in order to better refine the existing targets before the drilling planned for the second half of 2021.
