The Reading Symphony Orchestra will host the young musician winner for their summer concert in Wokingham
MEMBERS of the Reading Symphony Orchestra will cross the border to Wokingham next weekend for their summer concert.
The group will host the 2019 winner of the RSO Young Musicians Competition, cellist Oliver Simpson, for a performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
The musician has since been selected as a Junior LPO Artist for 2021-22, studying at Junior Guildhall.
The program opens with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and ends with Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, also known as the “Rhenish” Symphony.
The orchestra says that Schumann was inspired to write this, his last symphony, following a trip to the Rhineland. It was established in 1851 in Düsseldorf, the twin town of Reading.
The musical evening will take place at St Paul’s Church in Reading Road, Wokingham on Saturday 25th June from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15, or £5 for those studying.
