The Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo arrive in Norwich

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, also known as The Trocks, have been entertaining audiences around the world since the 1970s but have never performed in Norwich…until now.
For those unfamiliar with The Trocks, they are an all-male troupe who dance classic ballerina roles in tutus and pointe shoes.
The dancers perform with incredible skill alongside their sassy parodies.
Drag is an art form that has become mainstream in recent years, but The Trocks have led the way by performing male and female roles in some of the world’s most iconic ballets for nearly 50 years.
Speaking of The Trocks, dancer Giovanni Goffredo said: “Trockadero is one of a kind.
“In countries around the world, drag is something very special, and that’s what makes this show unique and wonderful – to bring something different to people, to bring a touch of classical ballet.”

So what does it take to get these prima ballerinas ready for the stage?
Well, the Trocks go on tour with 60 costumes, 80 pairs of earrings, and 110 pairs of false eyelashes, and it takes each Trock 90 minutes to put on makeup.
If you’ve never seen traditional ballet, these comedic productions offer a unique twist on timeless storytelling and music.
However, although it is a parody, the choreography is based on the classical ballet to which it pays homage.
“It’s a comedy, it’s funny and people have fun. They go out to have fun and laugh but also to attend high-level classical dances.
“We are all educated in the most prestigious schools around the world,” said Giovanni.
For Giovanni, The Trocks are also a great way to encourage new audiences to dance.

“There is a lot of variety and we bring a different repertoire. It’s not like watching a full ballet.
“That’s what I love about the business. We can reach new audiences, from kids to seniors.”
The Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo will be at the Norwich Theater Royal from September 30 to October 1.
