Stuart Opera House receives grant to install air purification units

The Stuart Opera House has been part of Nelsonville, Ohio since the 19th century. It hosts theatrical productions, as well as dance and visual art exhibitions. Recently, Stuart’s Opera House received a grant from the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, or FAO.
The money will allow Stuart’s Opera House to install air purification systems. Angela Anderson, director of development for Stuart’s Opera House, believes these systems are essential in a post-pandemic world for Stuart’s.
“Due to the pandemic, the governor has ordered us to shut down,†Anderson said in a message. “We were able to install air purification systems so that when we are allowed to reopen our theater is as safe as possible for our customers.”
Anderson said the health department recommended the air purification system so that customers could reap the benefits.
“Clean, purified air is important and shows that we care about our employees and visitors to our theater,†Anderson said in a post. “So even though clean air is not visible, it is certainly beneficial for anyone who visits our historic opera house.”
The grant was made possible through Cause Connector, FAO’s digital donation platform. Through Cause Connector, donors can connect and support nonprofit projects that kick off a program or serve the residents of Appalachian Ohio.
The first round of Cause Connector ended last April. $ 250,000 was raised, supporting 88 projects in the 32 counties of the Appalachian Ohio.
Organizations in the region can submit a project to register on Cause Connector. The reasons for the projects vary; some may result from the pandemic or respond to a critical community need. Others may submit a project to help launch a new effort or raise funds to develop a program.
Funding for the grants comes from the generosity of donors. FAO distributes funding through grants once projects are funded.
“Donations of all sizes helped the Stuart Opera House achieve its goal of purchasing and installing seven rooftop air purification units that would help improve the site’s air quality, a top priority. during the recent reopening of the site, “said Emily Vigue, FAO program manager. in an email. “The Stuart Opera House has a long history of cultural and artistic expression in the region, and donors were delighted to donate to a project to help them reopen safely. Stuart Opera House and FAO helped raise funds for their Cause Connector project. “
Appalachian Ohio has access to fewer grants and scholarships per capita than the rest of the state.
“This ‘philanthropy gap’ means that students, nonprofits, schools and community organizations in the region have less support to continue their education, meet urgent needs and seize opportunities,” said Vigue. in an email. “Cause Connector was designed with the philanthropy gap in mind and was designed to provide immediate support to investor-ready projects that are working today to make a difference in Appalachian Ohio. Cause Connector’s cycle was able to impact all 32 Ohio counties of the Appalachian Mountains, making an immediate difference locally. “
The first cycle of Cause Connector has been such a success that FAO plans to launch a second cycle next year, on February 14, 2022.
As for Stuart’s Opera House, there are plenty of upcoming events, including a free summer concert on July 15 at Robbins Crossing on the Hocking College campus. In addition, from August until the beginning of October, Stuart’s presents several artists. Artists include Todd Snider, Town Mountain, Taj Mahal, Okkervil River & Damien Jurado, and Rhonda Vincent and The Rage.
