Russian ballet dancer found dead in hotel room, police investigate

A Russian ballerina has been found dead in a hotel in Bogotá, Colombia, according to local media.

The dancer was found in a hotel in the Corferias district of the capital, Caracol Televisión reported. Caracol newsciting local police, who said they found drugs and a bottle of alcohol at the scene.

According to the outlet, she is a Russian ballet and was in the country with other Russian ballet athletes and dancers. It is not clear if she was part of a sports delegation in the country.

W Radio Colombia named Russian athlete Angélica Grivinina, 39. She reportedly stayed in a hotel in Bogotá for several days before being found dead.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the identity of the Russian athlete and contacted the Russian Embassy in Colombia and the National Police of Colombia for further details.

His body was found in a hotel in the Corferias neighborhood, located in the Quinta Paredes neighborhood of Bogotá, an area known for its hotels and business offerings, and generally popular with entrepreneurs and travelers.

Hotel staff discovered the woman’s body in her room and immediately notified local authorities, according to Totus Noticias.

Local authorities have been in contact with the Russian Embassy in Colombia and the cause of death is currently being investigated.

The area has been cordoned off to allow an investigation to be opened.

Other outlets identified the woman as 47.

The woman’s body was transferred by the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) from the prosecutor’s office to a forensics headquarters to determine the cause of death, RedMas reported.

Local investigative news agency Agency De Periodismo Investigativo reported that authorities are not ruling out speculation about what could be the cause of the Russian athlete’s death.

Several Russian ballet dancers have died since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine in late February.

On May 29, 20-year-old ballerina Alesya Lazareva died in Moscow, the press service of the Classical Ballet Theater reported.

“Alesya was a recognized, artistic, refined and strong ballerina. She was only 20 years old, full of life, young and beautiful. It is an irreparable loss for family, loved ones, friends and fans,” said said the theater.

The young dancer reportedly fell after going to the toilet and lost consciousness. We did not know that she suffered from a particular health problem.

A few days earlier, Anatoly Soi, the 22-year-old principal dancer of the Kremlin Ballet, died after spending three days in intensive care. A friend of Soi told Russian media mk.ru that he was poisoned in a gas leak at home, although his family has not confirmed the reports.

Across the border in Kyiv, Ukrainian ballet dancer Artem Datsyshyn died in March, aged 43, weeks after being injured in a Russian bombardment.
