Out at the Cork Opera House for The Nutcracker
Cork City Ballet returned to the stage at Cork Opera House on Thursday evening with a dazzling performance of The Nutcracker. The production includes Katerina Petrova, principal dancer of the National Ballet of Sofia in Bulgaria. Performances continue through Saturday.
Directed by Alan Foley with choreography by Yury Demakov, the production starred Katerina Petrova, prima ballerina of Bulgaria’s National Ballet of Sofia as the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Tsetso Ivanov as her prince.
As well as dancers from the National Ballet Sofia, Cork Opera House’s production of The Nutcracker featured a cast of 50, including 22 children.
The Nutcracker will run at Cork Opera House until Saturday 5th November.
The night marked Cork City Ballet’s first production since Swan Lake in 2019.
For the festive production, audiences were taken on a journey through the Land of Snow to the magical Candy Kingdom.
The production saw impressive costumes, as well as glorious music by Tchaikovsky.
The seasonal classic featured principals, soloists and a full corps de ballet.
Before the first performance, director Alan Foley said, “I always use the magic word when it comes to The Nutcracker because that’s exactly what it is.”
The Nutcracker will take place at the Cork Opera House on 3, 4 and 5 November, for four performances only, including a matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday 5 November.
