The Opera Philadelphia Channel is now streaming New directions, a new series from UK-based Music Theater Wales, partner of Opera Philadelphia.

Music Theater Wales and Opera Philadelphia continue their partnership by supporting each other’s projects.

Businesses do this by promoting New directions, and the presentation of Opera Philadelphia commissions by composers Tyshawn Sorey and Daniel Bernard Roumainhave – also known as DBR.

Sorey and DBR’s Opera Philadelphia Orders – Save the boys and Cycles of my being; They still wanna kill us, respectively – will be presented to the public at Music Theater Wales.

In a kind of exchange, New directions was made available for streaming on the Opera Philadelphia Channel.

Music Theater Wales artistic associate Elayce Ismail, director Michael McCarthy, will direct New directions. The series will explore three digital collaborations of newcomers to the field of opera.

This new British theater series incorporates digital works aimed at ‘redefining the art form [of opera] for our time.

New directions asks the question of what opera is and “what it can be like commissioning and working with artists who have been ignored or excluded from creating opera before”.

The series will feature a collection of projects, including that of Krystal S. Lowe and Jasmin Kent Rodgman Sort of; Renell Shaw, Rachael Young and Kyle Legall Pride (the roar of a lion).

The Music Theater Wales series will air for free on the Opera Philadelphia Channel from December 1 to the end of May 2022.

Philly’s talent showcased at Music Theater Wales

Opera Philadelphia will share three commissions with the Music Theater Wales audience.

They still wanna kill us will air for free on the Opera Philadelphia Channel until January 31, 2022.
