OKC Ballet is back

The Oklahoma City Ballet is back and getting ready for its 50th anniversary showcase. Shows that have been on pandemic hiatus since March 2020 are advancing. The dancers put on their ballet shoes. From plaice to sissonne, the ballet is back. âThe first show at the Civic Center is Alice in Wonderland, premiering this weekend, October 22, 23 and 24,â said dancer Joseph Hetzer. After being so successful three years ago, the ballet is bringing Alice back to Wonderland. âThe community loved it, Oklahoma City loved it, so we wanted to bring it back for people who haven’t seen it the first time,â Hetzer said. We asked Hetzer what the public should expect. âIt’s all over. High, colorful, you expect to see some dancing. My colleagues have worked hard – and so have I – and we are delighted to put on a good show for you,â he said. Hetzer said. that the pandemic has been a learning experience for those in the performing arts. “Practicing with masks and maybe playing with a mask someday, you really have to find different ways of playing the character,” But good things came out of it as well. “One of the great things that came out of COVID-19 was our Ballet Under the Stars, which is in Scissortail Park, and that brings people to the ballet who do not have access to it, âhe said. Now the ballet is excited to have the opportunity to bring Alice back. âWe’re all so thankful that we can dance right now – that having any time at all, we’re going to put it all in,â he said.
