May 2 – HIGH POINT – After a 17-month drought, High Point Ballet will return to the stage next weekend for their first live performances since December 2019.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have the chance to finally get back on the pitch and do what we love most – entertaining,” said Rita Taylor, Managing Director. “It has been a long dry season for us.”

The troupe will present “Tribute To Broadway” – an energetic show featuring favorite Broadway songs and dances – Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the High Point Theater. Even though the bright lights of Broadway remain dark, this production will pay homage to the so-called Great White Way, including numbers from popular Broadway shows such as “Les Miserables”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, “In the Heights ”and“ Little Shop of Horrors ”.

“You know Broadway is always down, so we felt it was time to bring back some of the great shows that have been a part of Broadway for so long,” Taylor said.

“It will be song and dance, and a lot of energy. It will be a great way to get back to the theater.”

High Point Ballet last performed to a live audience during the 2019 Christmas season, when the troupe presented their annual ‘The Nutcracker’ performance, also at the High Point Theater. The ballet broadcast its 2020 “The Nutcracker” performances live, with dancers on stage but no spectators in the audience.

“Our artists are very happy to be back,” said Taylor.

“An essential part of any artist’s existence is to have the chance to perform. This is the reason for all the countless classes you attend and all the work you do, so it’s really, really. special to be back, especially knowing that so many millions of performers around the world are still not back. “

For next weekend’s performances, socially distanced sitting and mask protocols will be in place. Additionally, the theater will use a sanitizing mist throughout the facility between shows to provide as safe a performance experience as possible, Taylor said.
