Forest strikes deal for ‘conductor’
Nottingham Forest have a verbal agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Lowdown: Freuler’s Career So Far
Since joining the Serie A side six and a half years ago the 30-year-old was instrumental in their rise to prominence in the Italian top flight, having amassed 259 appearances for the club.
After playing 29 times in the league last season, Freuler also contributed a goal and assist to Atalanta’s Champions League campaign, leading the team as captain twice in the group stages.
The midfielder is also a regular for the Swiss national team, with 46 selections to his name.

According to Plettenberg, Forest have now reached a verbal agreement with Freuler over a move to the Premier League this summer.

Looking at Freuler’s underlying stats, it’s easy to see why Forest boss Steve Cooper is so keen on bringing the versatile midfielder to the City Ground this summer in a potential. €10 million (£8.5million) move.
According FBRef compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the 30-year-old ranks in the 93rd percentile for progressive passing, 86th percentile for progressive passing attempts and carrying and the 75th percentile for blockages.

According to The Athletic’s Paul Taylor an Italian journalist dubbed Freuler the “conductor” due to the midfielder’s ability to dictate play in the middle of the park.
