Elīna Garanča and Jonathan Tetelman conduct “Carmen” in Belgrade

The Belgrade Summer Festival has announced that mezzo-soprano superstar ElÄ«na Garanča will perform the title role in a concert of George Bizet’s opera masterpiece “ Carmen »On July 4, 2021.

Garanča will be joined on stage by American tenor Jonathan Tetelman as Don José and Greek bass-baritone Kostas Smoriginas as Escamillo. Serbian soprano Marija Jelić will perform the role of Micaëla. Karel Mark Chichon will conduct the Serbian National Theater Opera Orchestra.

The Latvian mezzo-soprano has performed the critically acclaimed role of Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, among others. She has been continually praised for her “rich sound, an infallible feel for nuance and subtext of a sentence, and alluring sensuality.”

Garanča will perform “Carmen” at the Teatro di San Carlo from June 25 to 27, 2021. The mezzo-soprano then returns on stage on August 22, 2021 as Marguerite in “La Damnation de Faust” by Berlioz at the Salzburger Festspiele, before d ‘take on the role of Princess di Bouillon in Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” at the Wiener Staatsoper in October and November 2021.
