Driver and conductor injured in attack at Bhubaneswar bus stand
Bhubaneswar: Two staff from a private bus were injured in a suspected attack by those from another bus in the capital of Odisha on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the incident happened during the departure time of the two buses from Baramunda bus station in Bhubaneswar. As one bus, Babamani, was about to leave for Berhampur, another bus, Dildar, started moving towards Chhatrapur at the same time.
As the two buses would not leave to give way to each other, an argument ensued between their conductors and conductors. They blamed themselves on the time of departure.
With no staff willing to back down, the argument escalated into heated exchange of words. In a fit of rage, a Dildar bus staff member pulled out a sharp weapon and allegedly assaulted the driver and Babamani conductor inside the bus stop.
Staff from the other buses rushed the seriously injured conductor and driver, who were bleeding profusely, to the city’s Capital Hospital.
Informed, a team from the Bharatpur police station went to the scene and brought the situation under control. However, by the time the attackers had fled. The police reportedly detained a few people for questioning.
The sources said that the absence of any security device or the presence of the police in the bus stop lead almost regularly to such incidents.
