Cincinnati Ballet cuts ribbon for new home in Walnut Hills
CINCINNATI – When plans for a new Major League Soccer stadium in the West End began to be formulated, one of the most lingering questions concerned the longtime training space of the Cincinnati Ballet, which – until ‘to recently – was adjacent to the new home of FC Cincinnati.
But ballet president Scott Altman said plans for the move were already well under way at that point, and that they included transforming the rehearsal building into something much larger.
“It was specially designed with that in mind – to be available to the community,” Altman told WCPO of the state-of-the-art 57,000 square foot facility located at the foot of Gilbert Avenue in Walnut Hills.
“I mean, who could, you know, have a more vibrant dream than, ‘I want my wedding where they perform and produce the Cincinnati Ballet?’” He said.
The $ 31 million facility has 10 studios, if you count the outdoor performance space, but also houses all the facilities for a major event that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.
“We have a catering kitchen; we have a huge atrium with views to the west and east, north and south, ”Altman said. “We have an outdoor patio where you can sit and enjoy the sun or an evening.”
The ballet company has a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., where visitors will find live music, crafts, food trucks, free tours and, of course, ballet performances.
