BROOKLYN — The Brooklyn Opera House will host a summer community theater production of “Mama Won’t Fly” July 22-24.

This comedy is a race against time when Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt agrees to fly her feisty mother from Alabama to California in time for her brother’s wedding, however, Savannah’s problem is that mom won’t fly. With just four days to make it to the ceremony, this determined girl has no choice but to cross the country with her equally strong-willed mother, Norleen Sprunt, in her vintage sedan.

“There are colorful characters in this show,” said Deborah Kennedy, co-director of this upcoming production. “It’s a cast of 8 (6 women, 2 men) but there are 24 characters, which means the actors can play multiple characters. It’s also a great show for women. Often in the theater, the The play’s plot centers around male characters, so I love that we can showcase and celebrate women with this show that will hopefully make people laugh.

Auditions for this performance will take place at the opera house at 7 p.m. on May 19. No preparation is necessary and the actors will read the script. Rehearsals begin June 20. Visit www.brooklynoperahouse.com for more information.
