After perhaps one of Broadway’s darkest seasons ever, Detroit-born playwright Dominique Morisseau is bringing home her Motown musical.
Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of Temptations will take place at the Detroit Opera House from August 9-28, presented in partnership with Broadway in Detroit.
The musical chronicles the Temptations’ journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with their signature dance moves and harmonies leading the way. Beyond the success story of Motown, Ain’t too proud tells the story of the Temptations meeting and the personal and political conflicts that threatened to tear the band apart during a time of civil unrest.
Of course, the room wouldn’t be complete without a soundtrack of the band’s greatest hits like ‘My Girl’, ‘Just My Imagination’, ‘Papa Was a Rolling Stone’ and many more to list.
August 9-28 at the Detroit Opera House; 1526 Broadway St., Detroit. The sessions are at 8 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings and at 2 p.m. in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets start at $35. For more information, visit broadwayindetroit.com.
