45-year-old man charged with assaulting bus driver and conductor –
For allegedly assaulting a Lagos commercial bus driver and his conductor, a 45-year-old man, Kazeem Jeje, was dragged to Ojo Magistrates Court in Lagos.
The accused is on trial before Magistrate LJK Layeni on three counts bordering on assault and malicious damage to property.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Dr. Simon Uche told the court that the accused committed the offenses on October 7 on the Alaba International Market Road in Ojo.
He alleged that the accused assaulted the complainants: Messrs. Daudu Anisere and Kabiri Ogunjimi, with the aim of forcibly collecting routine payment through commercial buses from them.
According to the prosecution, the accused had in the process caused injuries to the plaintiffs respectively in the face and in the mouth.
He alleged that the defendant also maliciously damaged a Nokia phone belonging to Ogunjimi worth N7,000.00; the rear-view mirror of a Mazda bus belonging to Anisere worth N10,000.00 as well as his slippers worth N1,500.00.
The prosecutor said the offenses contravened the provisions of Sections 173 and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.
The court granted bail to the defendant in the amount of N200,000 along with two bail bonds of a similar amount.
He adjourned the case until November 11 for trial.
